In my future classroom, I hope to create an open, though-provoking, engaging classroom environment. I will use humanism as a basis for my teaching style, centering everything around student learning and reflection. Discussion will be a main focus in my classroom, and the layout and expectations will reflect that by promoting group work. The way in which I manage behavioral issues will also reflect the humanism approach, by asking students to reflect and assess their behavior and emotions. My goal is to create respectful, kind, hard-working, thoughtful students.
Throughout the year, it will be essential for me to reflect on my teaching practices and evaluate how I am reaching my goals. By keeping a journal or blog of some sort I will be able to record what goes well in my classroom and reflect upon what I can change for the better. After units or at the end of each week, I will set aside time to reflect on my teaching and develop better strategies for the future. I will also commit to professional development, and continue to learn how to become a better teacher. Just like I expect of my students, I will strive to always be a learner.
